Albert  Narrow  Boat's  SITE
This part of the site is basically the ship's log of Narrowboat Albert (pictured on the introduction page), but is really an ego trip by an elderly boater, (also to be seen seen on the introduction page - repairing his line after catching Blowfish from a different sort of boat even further abroad), assisted by a slightly wayward computer, a mobile phone with GPRS modem within,  a digital camera, local gongoozlers, other boaters, and above all, by the ladies and gentlemen of the Voies Navigables de France,
It is "published" for the interest and entertainment of friends and family - please live with the cock-ups or late publishing.

ALBERT.
Albert is a bog standard English steel narrow boat with a "semi-trad" cockpit, 14.95 metres (50 ft) long, and standard NB width. We have an inverter giving 240 volts for running the odd brighter light and the computer,  a separate 15 amp battery charger, an anchor,  a cockpit "bimini", and a Brompton folding bicycle and a bike trailer,

CONTENTS OF THE SITE.       Click on underlined for links as listed.    Against my usual policy I have got a lot of stuff down below on this page that you need to scroll down to see.  Sorry about that, but, amongst other things, there is quite a good map there of France and her Waterways.

Last fiddled with 04 August 2008 and should be in axmw44.

ALBERT'S LOGS.
A quick few notes about the weekly logs:

    1.    Starting from the middle of 2000, I sometimes put a small map at the top of each week's log, showing where we were, or where we thought we were, at the end of that week.  (2008)  This custom died away in 2004 - and by 2006 I found the multi-tasking involved in producing it was getting too much - especially when the log was 3 to 6 weeks behind in publishing.   I will try and re-establish the custom in 2008 - but no promises.

    2.    From 2001, we are inserting relevant photos into the log. These are "thumbnails", of 4kbs only.  They are links to a full size (just click on them) which will download with the page.   These pictures are sometimes degraded to permit quick up - and down - loads.
From 2008, as I now have a GPRS link on the boat, and most people seem to have broadband connections, the cost of up and downloading better quality pictures is no longer prohibitive, so they will be bigger - and hopefully - better.

    3.     I have never yet sorted out "entitling" the pictures - come the evening when this sort of work should be done, supper and bed call more insistently.  However, I will try again this year (2008).
